The small businesses under the Union Street railway bridge have started a petition after they have been given notice to leave by the owners of the railway arches, Railtrack.

The petition by Union Street Traders Association says in their petition:

We are an eclectic group of small business’ in Southwark and we are being evicted by our landlord in order to create more offices in the area.

Having been in Union Street for more than 15 years, we are a close knit community of traders offering food, theatre and retail.
We are now being asked to leave to make way for “Regeneration” and the placement of offices.

We are devasted by this news, our working and family lives are attached to Union Street and we would happily carry on trading here for the rest of our days.

What Union Street doesn’t need is more offices.

Union Street needs Character, Diversity and Community.

The businesses who would have to be replaced by new offices include The Union Theatre, Academy Costumes and Rocket Van Box Shop.
